Athrú are a new, vibrant, award winning, contemporary Irish Trad band that draw upon influences from Belfast and beyond to deliver music that is a combination of powerful accompaniment fused with modern tunes and delicate harmonies that is dynamic, energetic and fresh.

The band originated through sessions in Belfast in 2014, and despite their short time together have won Derry's "An Re Nua” in March 2014 and the infamous “Molloy Award” at the Birmingham Tradfest in November 2015.

They have recorded their début EP album which was released in the summer of 2015 to a sold out EP launch Tour of Ireland. The band have performed on Lynette Fay’s Radio show “Blas Cheoil” on BBC Radio Ulster, have been featured several times on Radio Na Gaeltachta live from the All Ireland Fleadh, and performed Live on Irish TV in November 2015.

They recently travelled abroad to France in March 2016 to play alongside Kila as part of the Slainte Asso Irish Traditional Music Festival 2016.

Supporting the likes of Trad super-groups: MOXIE, KAN, Goitse, Buille and the Máirtín O'Connor Trio; they have begun to build a strong following with their great sets and infectious onstage character.
